Letters re Corley's election to Congress during Reconstruction, including 4 Apr. and 28 July 1868, to Charles Lanman, Georgetown, S.C., acknowledging request for biographical information, and enclosing broadside, 4 Apr. 1868, "To the Voters of the Third Congressional District of South Carolina," relating his service in the "rebel army" despite his opposition to slavery and secession, denouncing policies of the Democratic Party, and defending the constitution adopted by the South Carolina convention of 1867-1868. Other materials include a printing order, 1868, for copies of Corley's speech re the 15th amendment; biographical information, 31 Dec. 1868, Washington, D.C., sent to Ben[jamin] P[erly] Poore; and "A Short Sketch of the life of Simeon Corley," ca.1869, submitted to [Charles Lanham] re Corley's early life in antebellum Lexington District, his devotion to the temperance movement, his Civil War experiences, and his political career.
